Gray Whale, male, originally stranded on Samish Island on Apr. 11, 2010, then towed to Lummi Island by WDFW to be released on remote beach for necropsy, completed on Apr.12, 2010 with assitance from Cascadia Research Collective. Cause of death is likely lack of food as animal was very thin. Whale was not one of the "regular" migrants we find in the Salish Sea and likely did not know where the best feeding spots were and maybe, additionally, came into Puget Sound low in weight.

Gray Whale, 2 year old male, stranded at Cherry Point on Apr. 28, 2009. Necropsy done on site the next day with the help from Cascadia Research Collective. Cause of death could not be determined but possible bruising suggestive of ship strike.
